For more than 10 years, native Austinites Billy and Brenda “Ms. B” McGowan have brought unique and authentic Creole cuisine to Austin.

Billy McGowan has decades of experience in the restaurant business, having worked as a chef for eateries ranging from burger joints to church kitchens to New Orleans’ renowned Chez Helène. Brenda McGowan is a former nurse and hospital administrator as well as a businesswoman and formally trained chef.

The husband-and-wife team opened their first restaurant, McGowan’s Cajun Kitchen, in Pflugerville in 1994. In 2000, they opened the first Ms. B’s location on Mesa Drive. Following the success of the first Ms. B’s, the couple opened a second location on East 11th Street in early 2006. This large and upscale new restaurant serves as a vibrant part of the revitalization of East Austin, and the McGowans are excited to be part of the area’s resurgence.

From gumbo to crawfish enchiladas to the famous sweet potato pecan pie, Ms. B’s food has impressed customers and critics alike. On weekend nights, live piano music adds to the warm and lively atmosphere. We invite you to come to Ms. B’s for taste of New Orleans in the heart of Texas.
